Nursing Care I TMCC

Overview
The TMCC Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) prepares the student to practice nursing as a registered nurse. Graduates of an ADN program usually practice as nurses in direct client care in hospitals, long-term care facilities, clinics and community agencies where nursing roles and services are structured and well defined.
The Associate of Science Degree in Nursing will be awarded upon completion of the curriculum, and students will be eligible to apply to take the state licensure examination leading to practice as a registered nurse.

Program of Study
The TMCC Nursing Program is a full-time program. As such, all core nursing courses in the degree are to be taken in sequence. General education support courses may be taken as outlined or prior to acceptance into the program. Students are strongly encouraged to complete as many support courses as possible prior to entering the program, as the time requirements of the program are considerable.
Differential Fee Structure
The TMCC Maxine S. Jacobs Nursing Program operates on a differential tuition model: Nursing Program students pay an additional $60.00 per credit.
Course Descriptions
Courses must be taken in sequence as outlined in the program of study. Student progression is contingent on attaining a C or better in all classes. Nursing students who are unable to progress from one course to another in the program have one opportunity only to re-enter the program. All re-entry admissions are on a space available basis. Re-entry is not guaranteed for a specific semester.
Accreditation
Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) (formerly: National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc.), a U.S. Department of Education recognized accrediting agency for nursing programs, maintains information on TMCC's Nursing Program.

Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA)
Americans With Disabilities Act-qualified students with physical or documented learning disabilities have the right to free accommodations to ensure equal access to educational opportunities at Truckee Meadows Community College. For assistance, contact the Disability Resource Center.
Licensure
Nursing program graduates are eligible to apply for licensure in the state of their choice. The TMCC Nursing Department must be notified if the state is not Nevada, since each state has specific criteria for licensure eligibility requirements. Some graduates elect to take the NCLEX licensing examination in Nevada and then apply for out of state licensure. It is the student's responsibility to contact the state of their choice to ascertain eligibility requirements. Graduation from an accredited program is only one of the requirements and does not mean automatic licensure as a nurse.
Graduates should be aware that the State of Nevada licensure application contains five questions which may impact their ability to obtain licensure in Nevada. These five questions have to do with:
- Revocation, denial, or suspension of a license or certificate,
- Conviction of a criminal offense,
- Problems with drug or alcohol use,
- Treatment for mental illness, and
- Physical disability which could impair ability to practice nursing.
AWHONN was created in 1969 . At that time, it was called the Nurses Association of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists...
